Google recognised that technical quality alone no longer distinguishes valuable content from noise. What matters is whether the content demonstrates genuine human knowledge and lived experience.

This shift has profound implications. A blog post about B2B marketing strategy written by AI, even if technically accurate, carries less weight than one written by someone who has actually built marketing functions, made strategic mistakes, learned from them, and developed perspective through repeated exposure to real business challenges. The AI can synthesise publicly available information about marketing strategy. It cannot describe what it feels like to present a failing campaign to a hostile board, or how to navigate the political dynamics when sales and marketing conflict over lead quality.

The Experience component is particularly difficult for AI to fake. Google’s algorithms are increasingly sophisticated at detecting whether content reflects genuine first-hand knowledge or merely repackages existing information. This detection operates through multiple signals: specific details that only someone with direct experience would include, acknowledgment of nuance and trade-offs rather than simplified best practices, reference to edge cases and exceptions that textbooks omit.

I have seen this play out across dozens of clients. Those publishing AI-generated content without substantial human input are watching their search rankings decline. Those using AI as a research and structuring tool but ensuring every piece reflects genuine expertise and experience are maintaining or improving visibility. In an orchestrated system, AI agents handle the mechanical aspects of marketing at scale. An agent monitors competitor activity across dozens of sources, flagging significant changes for human review. Another agent tracks search trends and social conversation to identify emerging topics worth addressing. A third agent optimises ad spend across channels in real-time based on performance data. A fourth agent distributes content across appropriate platforms with timing and formatting adjusted for each channel’s requirements.

This orchestration creates leverage that purely human teams cannot match. I can monitor far more signals, respond to opportunities faster, and maintain consistent presence across more channels than would be possible manually. The AI does not tire, miss patterns, or let tasks fall through gaps. It operates continuously, handling the volume and velocity that overwhelm human capacity.

What the AI cannot do is provide the strategic direction that determines which opportunities to pursue, the authentic voice that makes content distinctive, or the judgment about when to break rules rather than follow them.
